From a very young age Matthew has been obsessed with music. Like most drummers he started by banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons as a child. Buy eight his mother gave in and purchased his first pair of sticks and a drum pad. But it wouldn’t be till his first band concert in third grade, when we tasked with beating a brake drum with a hammer that he would become truly hooked with drumming. “I remember that moment as the first time I knew making music was what I wanted to do in life. Thankfully that obsession hasn’t faded over time.”
Matthew passion for music has lead to studying percussion for more than twenty years and guitar for over fifteen years, including acoustic, electric, and classical guitar. He has studied classical, jazz, rock, blues, and pop music along with music theory. Matthews dedication to music and performance has taken him around the world multiple times, including performances throughout Europe and China.
In 2013 Matthew, along with his younger brother Ben, joined Chelsey Lousie
and Robert Cuica to form Fairy Bones. In 2015 the Phoenix New Times named Fairy Bones the “Best Local Band” of Phoenix. With their stunning debut record “Dramabot” and fiery live performances, Fairy Bones have earned their spot on stages with KONGOS, St Lucia, Alien Ant Farm, the Kyle Gass Band, as well as touring as an opener for the three time Grammy nominated Highly Suspect.
